HONORING THE GAME

We strive to create an environment of support and constructive learning.  We are committed to promoting a love of the sport (of baton twirling) while providing positive encouragement.  All parents and students will be expected to commit to those same beliefs.   Parents will be expected to set a good example for their child, while students will be setting examples for younger students, as well as other twirlers.

SEASONS

Baton twirling is a year round activity.  Our regular "season" is during the school year, from September through June.  Group and private lessons are scheduled regularly, while we generally observe all school vacations.  Lessons are cancelled if Woburn schools or recreation programs are cancelled due to snow.

Private summer lessons are available and are arranged based on interest.  Clinics are offered throughout the summer, just to try out new tricks and make new friends!  Summer training sessions are scheduled for those preparing for National Championships (NBTA and AAU).

LESSONS

Tier 1: Group lessons are required for all primary and secondary school students.  Placement is based on ability and age.  Those who are out of high school may also participate in group lessons if an appropriate class is available.

Tier 2: Private lessons are scheduled for any student who is interested, based on availability.  During the regular season, privates are scheduled on either a weekly or every-other week schedule.

Development of individual twirling skills is the primary focus of all group lessons.  For those who are also interested in team competition, time during the year is also dedicated to these routines.

TUITION & FEES

Yearly registration fees are collected at the start of each year (August/September).  Registration includes a shirt and membership in AAU.  Group lesson tuition is also collected at the start of each year.  Private lesson fees are collected monthly, a month in advance.  Additional details available when registering.

UNIFORM FOR LESSONS

All students are expected to wear their hair off their faces; buns or similar is preferred (required for more advanced twirlers).  Attire should be tight fitting clothing: leotard or other exercise wear, or shorts/shirt.  Footwear: sneakers, jazz shoes or similar.  Wear a different pair of shoes on rainy or snowy days to keep floor from getting wet.

COMPETITION TEAMS

The Gangi Bay State Strutters enter local, State and Regional competitions.  Any student who wishes to participate on a competition team must commit to participate in certain events (contests, parades, other) through-out the season (to be determined prior to the season).  To be included in a specific competition, the student must be in attendance at the two practices prior to the competition.
